Mobile browsing beats Desktop for the first time

Mobile browsing has overtaken desktop browsing for the first time, with October 2016 seeing more smartphones and tablets used to surf the web than desktop PCs.

According to a report by Alphr, global statistics from Stats Counter show that mobile web browsing secured 51.3% of the share for the month.

StatCounter CEO Aodhan Cullen said “mobile compatibility is increasingly important” for businesses.

“Not just because of growing traffic, but because Google favours mobile-friendly websites for its mobile search results,” he said.

Desktop browsing was still preferred in the US and the UK, with 55.6% and 58% respectively, while South Africa’s usage showed mobile browsing dominating – sitting at 67.5%.
